The trip to the distant Sauerland region proved worthwhile: Shree Shankar Pradhananga, Director-General of the SOS Children's Villages in Nepal, was pleased to receive a donation of more than 15,000 EUR. Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke, Managing Director of DURABLE, who had earmarked all cash gifts received on his 70th birthday for this project, presented the cheque to person. The total amount also included the proceeds from a direct mailing campaign targeting the German office supplies specialist trade at the beginning of this year, in which 10 EUR were paid into a special fundraising account for every response.
DURABLE has felt an obligation to accept social responsibility for many decades. In addition to care homes, sheltered workshops and other charitable organisations in Germany and Eastern Europe, DURABLE supports the SOS Children's Villages in particular. The company has developed a particularly close relationship with Nepal, where Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke headed the German Development Service during the 1960s. The SOS children's villages in Kavre and Sanothimi have repeatedly received generous donations in cash and in kind during the last few years.
The company has also helped to establish other SOS children's villages , for example in Sri Lanka, Peru and Indonesia, and continues to support them with relief goods, partly in cooperation with other companies from the industry. "We aim to help socially disadvantaged people in society. In this matter, the active involvement of our staff, who have already initiated numerous fundraising and sponsoring projects themselves, is of special importance to us", says Horst-Werner Maier-Hunke.
